If you’ve ever driven Highway U.S. 1 from Miami to Key West, you know first-hand what a truly beautiful and unique drive it is. Certainly it’s a long drive at about 165 miles, but if you haven’t experienced this travel adventure we’d encourage you to do it as there’s no other drive in America that can compare —- as it’s you, the road and the alluring ocean on one side, and the colors of the Gulf waters on the other side. It’s one of our favorite drives in the U.S.

Grab a cold drink and take in the world-renowned sunset views at Mallory Square. It’s a popular thing to do and be prepared to meet fellow travelers as you gather around to soak in the spectacular views. Tasty restaurants and shops line the mile-long Duval Street and others are tucked into the more quiet, quaint side streets and lanes. There’s a lively bar scene offering all kinds of tropical drinks and live bands. Some bars are famous, others rather infamous! You will often see ‘local characters’ as well when you’re out and about that are part of the Key West scene.
For those who enjoy fishing, there are very few places in the world that offer as many options as what you can find in Key West. From deep sea fishing to light tackle offshore fishing, there are plenty of opportunities. There’s a natural reef and several shipwrecks to explore. If you prefer angling in shallow waters, you’ll enjoy the famous Key West flats fishing. Not far from the flats is the backcountry where you’ll find miles of calm, protected waters to explore.

We don’t think you can visit Key West and not experience The Ernest Hemingway House and Museum. It’s tucked away on gorgeous grounds in the Old Town of Key West. Here visitors can see one of America’s most prominent writers’ homes where he lived and wrote.
